It might be rather dodgy if you went to the tribal areas in the north, but I am sure you will have a lovely time. Go with God.

You need to steer clear of the more extremist areas like the North. Other than that it is a beautiful country and you should have a wonderful time.

dude my uncle married a CHRISTIAN white lady... from NYC
their grown up children and all visit us in karachi n go to islamabad n lahore. they even visited the historical Moenjodaro this yr (one month ago)
NO problems watsoever
they were actually treated like celebrities ! =D
n u r a MUSLIM
so no fear
pakistan is a safe place.
BUT
stay clear of the tribal areas. u MAY face danger there
but i dun get y u WUD go there in the first place. even the locals are avoiding it
chill. since musharraf is gone... there will be fewer suicide attacks in major cities. and even when the attacks took place in da past, the politicians were targetted or locals only... in garbage cans and all.
in a nutshell... u r absolutely good in major cities. the security is tight n u'll blend in the tons of visitors we see roaming everywhere. n u r a muslim. so BONUS
DONT go in small cities. if u heard, a bomb blast was in the little city of D khan. but in karachi, lahore, islamabad. it's all good

it would be better if ur friend issues a letter in your favour from Pakistan saying that you are coming to meet him/her so visa process is quick. Some western NGO's workers were ceptuared spying on Pakistan nuclear aresenals which has made things more complicated.i hope you get the visa.It will take time as they will try to verify things. Also if ur looks are western and u look white u should know u should only visit stable areas of Pakistan like islambad, lahore, karachi. If you use passport of some arabic country/muslim it will quicken up visa process.Any person who visited israel will not be allowed to enter Pakistan as Pakistan does not recignize israel and any such link with israel is counted as terrorist link.check with ur local embassy for more details and Pakistan rules and regulations.Pakistanis are usually very nice to foreigners but since 2001 usa war , there is lot of hate but that never means someone wants to kill you though. Its just that they don't like it "when u justify that wtc was done by osama" so my advise would be agree to their beliefs in their country.if u need any other help u can email me.

Well, Karachi is probably the most turbulent city in Pakistan, Karachi is down south. It isn't really a country geared up for foreigners or tourism so don't expect the infrastructure to be tourist friendly. But as far as safety is concerned, is it no more unsafe then downtown Manhattan or London (I have lived in both these giants so I am talking from experience and spent 2 years in Karachi). I have never been to Thara but I doubt it will be any worse than south Karachi which like I said is the same as London or Downtown Manhatten.
Aslong as you wear a Burka or a Hijab you should most definatly be fine don't worry :D.
Edit: why did people thumb me down for telling the truth? Thara or Karachi are no more dangerous than downtown manhatten or london -.-.

Oh sure! I've never heard anything negative about Pakistan or their reaction to Americans or America in my life. LOL!!!
Just remember to give them a return address so they know where to send your head to.
