Is It Safe For An American Girl To Travel To Pakistan?

My boyfriend of three years (he’s from Pakistan, but has lived in the US for 10 years) wants me to travel with him to Pakistan to meet his family. They live in Thari ( i think that’s how you spell it) and Karachi. He says it is safe as long as we are careful. Would i have to wear a burka? He is 28 years old. I am 23 years old, white and blonde, so there is no question about me not being from Pakistan.

you definitely dont have to wear a burka (they are very rare in big cities). and dont worry about not being from pakistan, there are many foreigners in big cities like karachi, lahore, and islamabad. the people there are actually very hospitable and friendly towards foreigners (as much as western media may have you think the opposite). my only concern for you would be these taliban suicide bombings and kidnappings that happen there. as long as you are careful, stay away from open markets, dont go out too late (with or without your boyfriend, because theres nothing he’ll be able to do to prevent a kidnapping), stay away from police and army facilities. good luck!

Okay well I’m from Karachi and i can assure you its totally safe.. or let’s just say its as safe for you as it is for me or for any other local!
You dont need to wear a burqa, a hijab or anything.. it’s all quite ok in most parts of the city.
Use a hijab if u want to avoid people staring at you like total doofus! :P
Have a safe and fun trip, do visit the beach! :)
PS: What’s THARI? Havent heard of it!

Personally I wouldn’t. I will give you the link to the British Foreign office’s advice page for travel to Pakistan, obviously your not British but it basically advice for westerners.http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travelling-and-…
If you read the advice of no go areas and things not to do its quite extensive…as I say why take the risk.

check with the state department and they will inform you of all the travel risks that you will be taking on by going. Personally I think you are out of your mind for even considering going. For every action we take there is a reaction so I would seriously think about it.

People don’t wear Burkhas in Pakistan, at least not many people. Not many Muslim girls from anywhere wear them, a hijab would suffice.
I’m not sure if it’s that safe, but I wouldn’t go.

Just go about with your boyfriend. Pakistan isn’t that bad a place to go. Just don’t go into any warzones…
    Good Luck

It is safe as you are going with your boyfriend and he is Pakistani.

Oh sure! I’ve never heard anything negative about Pakistan or their reaction to Americans or America in my life. LOL!!!
Just remember to give them a return address so they know where to send your head to.

I wouldn’t, at least not now…..can’t say 10 years from now.
But just ask him to bring loads of your photos & video footages..should suffice?

Well, Karachi is probably the most turbulent city in Pakistan, Karachi is down south. It isn’t really a country geared up for foreigners or tourism so don’t expect the infrastructure to be tourist friendly. But as far as safety is concerned, is it no more unsafe then downtown Manhattan or London (I have lived in both these giants so I am talking from experience and spent 2 years in Karachi). I have never been to Thara but I doubt it will be any worse than south Karachi which like I said is the same as London or Downtown Manhatten.
Aslong as you wear a Burka or a Hijab you should most definatly be fine don’t worry :D .
Edit: why did people thumb me down for telling the truth? Thara or Karachi are no more dangerous than downtown manhatten or london -.-.
